Quick answers

What is IDV in bike insurance?

Insured Declared Value is the most the insurer pays if the bike is stolen or written off. It is the ex-showroom price minus standard depreciation: 5% up to 6 months, 15% up to 1 year, 20% up to 2 years, 30% up to 3 years, 40% up to 4 years and 50% up to 5 years. For older bikes it is agreed with the insurer.

Is third-party insurance the same price everywhere?

Yes. Third-party premiums are notified by IRDAI and depend only on engine size (or motor power for EVs): for example ₹714 a year for 75–150 cc and ₹1,366 for 150–350 cc.

How much does the no-claim bonus save?

NCB is a discount on the own-damage part only: 20% after one claim-free year, rising to 25%, 35%, 45% and a maximum of 50% after five claim-free years.
